Papers, 1848-1961 (bulk 1869-1928).

Collection consists predominantly of Talbot's diaries (1869-1928) and letters (1869-1900) written to his family while in seminary and at various missionary posts. The diaries and letters describe his various missionary duties, and include the time period Talbot was in Wyoming. The collection also contains sermons and other church records; photographs and 4 photograph albums (1895-1919) of Laramie and Wyoming ranches and Anne's camping trips; and 3 scrapbooks (1887-1920). The collection also includes the diaries of Anne Talbot Donaldson and her travels to Germany, Italy, and France in 1892 and 1893.

Ethelbert Talbot (1848-1928) was born in Missouri. He graduated from Dartmouth College and the General Theological Seminary of the Episcopal Church and began his clerical career as rector of the Episcopal Church in Macon, Missouri, in 1873. In 1887 he was elected missionary bishop of Wyoming and Idaho, an office which required him to travel great distances through thinly-populated country often under difficult conditions.
